Kryptonics Kore Series Multi-Sport Helmet Review

I love this helmet -but that's because it fits me.



I wear a Medium-sized motorcycle helmet. I know if I buy a M in a Shoei that it'll fit me perfectly. But the XL Kryptonics fits me perfectly with just enough room for a bike hat under it. (you need a bike hat under this helmet if you have a bald spot like I do or you will have a flower-shaped sunburn on your scalp due to the ventilation holes on top are not going to stop the UV light from coming through).



Other than this small sizing issue this is a great helmet -much better than the cheesy bike helmets that are available to bicyclists. I insist that if I'm going to wear any helmet it actually be effective and not some silly flimsy pool toy. This helmet looks and feels like it would actually do some good and protect your noggin instead of breaking into 10,000 pieces at first impact and not protect after that initial moment.



The straps are pretty good and quite comfortable and are not as cheap and irritating as most of the cheeseball bike helmets that I looked at when shopping for them.



The price is really awesome. It seems that it just keeps getting lower and lower every time I look at Amazon. Perhaps there aren't many left.



The only other negative thing I have to say about this helmet is the stickers. Mine came with a couple of sheets of neat stickers. It seems that you can switch out the stickers that come with the helmet for a more personalized look by mixing & matching the many sticker choices that come on the extra sheets -cool BUT good luck getting the stickers that come with the helmet OFF of it. They are chemically bonded to the shell -cured on with some sort of super-sticky glue that is really grabbing deep into the plastic of the shell. I picked and picked at mine with my fingernails and an assortment of plastic scrapers and it took an hour to get them off. The glue wouldn't come off after I got the vinyl part removed without some sort of chemical goo-gone type of help. That's not a good idea because I'm afraid that it will damage the shell integrity and make it less effective at protecting your head (that's the whole purpose of this helmet isn't it?)



I finally worked at the glue with dish detergent and got it all off after hours of scrubbing. The matte finish of the shell was actually changed by the glue and you can see where the stickers used to be. I ended up not using any of the stickers that came with the helmet and instead used a bunch of very effective retro-reflective tape strips to help with visibility at night. The stickers that came on the helmet have a limited amount of reflectivity but nothing like the stuff I used (even the blind could see this stuff at night!).



This is a good helmet. It seems to be very effective and tough (it is a skateboard-type helmet not a cheesy foam cream-puff of a bike helmet) that looks like it could take multiple hits and not have its effectiveness reduced too much. Skateboarders don't throw their helmets away after every crash, or they'd need to bring a box of them to every practice session.



The only issue is the sizing. Obviously these are child or young-teen sizes instead of adult sizes so order appropriately if you are an adult and are looking at this. The helmet comes with different foam inserts of 2 different thicknesses to fine-tune the fit. Just buy the XL if you are an adult and have a Medium-sized head. If you wear an adult L or XL this helmet isn't for you :(



I like the way this helmet makes me look like Tony Hawk. Tony is cool, fezzes are cool, bow-ties are cool.. (Obscure Doctor Who reference) This helmet is cool!
It's good if you take some of the pads out of it. It's a good for the price tag.
